This Lexington style ballpoint is made from colorful chips hand cast in resin then hand turned to form the body of the pen which is finished with elegant black chrome components. A ballpoint pen contains a viscous, oil-based ink. A ballpoint cartridge is self-contained and should require no maintenance. Ballpoints are most often found in retractable pen mechanisms. A new pen will often ship with a protective wax coating over the tip that can easily be removed by pressing the side of the tip to a piece of paper and dragging for a short distance.There are several different styles of ballpoint cartridge replacements, so look for a replacement that matches in both length and shape to be sure it matches your pens retracting mechanism. The most common types of refills for custom pens are the threaded Cross style refill which screws into the twist mechanism, and a Parker style which is enclosed in the retraction mechanism.
